The Importance Of A Warm Up

So many people fail to warm up correctly and this is a major cause of injury, lack of flexibility and performance.

The purpose of a warm up is to:

raise the body’s core temperature

make the muscles more flexible

warm up your joints

increase the speed of nerve impulses

increase he transfer of fuel and oxygen to your muscles

overall: reduce the risk of injury and increase performance

warm up: 5-10 minutes of light cardio based activity and dynamic stretches (stretch with a movement) ie, jumping jacks or lunges. Ensure all major muscle groups are worked. Especially the shoulders as this area is commonly where injuries occur

post workout: cool down with 5 minutes of light cardio followed by static stretches holding each muscle for a minimum of 20 seconds.

For less flexible muscles try a developmental stretch where you stretch the same muscle 3 times in succession for a minimum of 20 seconds, over time this will improve flexibility
